ELECTRIC WHEELCHAIR

Mr. P. has been suffering from Parkinson's disease since May 2021. Shortly thereafter, he suffered a stroke, resulting in hemiplegia. He is 90% disabled and requires extensive care. He lives with his wife, and they support themselves through their pensions and care allowance (level 4).

Before his diagnosis, Mr. P. worked as a carpenter and was very active in sports. Now he is permanently wheelchair-bound. However, his manual wheelchair can only be moved with assistance. The couple lives in mountainous terrain, making mobility very difficult. This social isolation, in addition to his illness, negatively impacts his mental health.

To be able to leave the house independently, Mr. P. needs an electric wheelchair, for which his health insurance company refused to cover the costs. After deducting the costs of medication, care, and living expenses, no money remains for him to purchase an electric wheelchair himself. The foundation supported his purchase.
