The paediatric intensive care unit of the Paracelsus hospital in Salzburg is affiliated to the Neuro Rehab Center reKiZ for children and young adults who suffer from severe illnesses or have had complicated surgery. They often stay there for several months. The Foundation contributed € 25.000,00 towards the total costs of a therapy garden for the recreation of the patients and their parents. 2016_12
Spomio e.V. in Mindelheim offers sports activities and recreational trips for disabled people. In 2016 about 20 handicapped at the age of 4 to 27 years went on a 2-week vacation in Denmark together with 5 caretakers. Some of the costs are covered by the parents, and the caretakers are volunteers who take vacation from their everyday work - but that does not cover it all. The Foundation donated € 3.500,00. 2016_10
For about 43 adults the Helen-Keller-Haus is their home. Each of them has several, severe handicaps. During the course of the day they are offered various physical activities, like swimming. A butterfly-shaped tub is a perfect alternative to the visit to the indoor swimming pool. The physiotherapist joins the patient in the water for training or relaxation exercises. The Foundation Amor y Energía (love and energy) AM-EN is an independent, non- profit charitable organization committed to the social development of handicapped children and young people in Quito, Ecuador, an area with disproportionately many handicapped, poverty, alcoholism, lack of quality in medical care, and very little public care. AM-EN offers horse back riding therapy for about 400 children and young adults. They do have help from volunteers but therapists and fodder have to be paid for. Riding therapy for one handicapped costs € 600,00 per year. The Foundation donated € 5.000,00. 2016_04
The charitable organization KiO Kinderhilfe e.V. assists families in which a child has had an organ transplant. After such illness and surgery, the child often lacks courage to behave like a healthy child. Together with specialists, KiO has created an adventure and experiential program in which the children, together with their family members, strengthen their self-confidence and energy. 7 children, 3 of their brothers and sisters, and 14 adults joined such a seminar in Thüringen. The Foundation donated € 5.000,00.
SELF is an empowerment project of the charitable organization Deutsche Soccer Liga e.V. in Erfurt. It aims at helping young parents (16 to 26 years old) better understand their own needs and capabilities, and successfully complete their apprenticeship – and at the same time strengthen their role as parents. The Foundation donated € 10.000,00.
Evangelisches Hilfswerk München provides public social help to women in very difficult social and economic emergency situations. Escort at visits to public authorities, consultation on parenting style, mother-child excursions, and sporting activities are some of the offerings. The Foundation donated € 2.500,00. 2016-23
5 years ago, the „children`s church“ in Solingen started their project for refugees. Once a month refugee children and their parents are invited to a get-together including lunch. The staff (all are volunteers) organizes a program with games, storytelling, theatre, brainteasers, and a tombola with toys for the children. In the charity shop parents may find nice clothing for their children. Each event hosts approx. 250 visitors. The Foundation donated € 3.000,00. 2016-34
At the charitable Förderverein Peter-Härtling-Schule e.V. emphasis is on mental development. For transportation of the pupils to excursions or external events, they have two busses. One had to be replaced. The Foundation donated € 5.000,00. 2016-20
Franz-Beckenbauer-Stiftung maintain good relations with the family-friendly hotel DAS LUDWIG in Bad Griesbach. Six children of the Clemens-Maria Children’s Home together with two of their caretakers were invited to a few wellness-days. These children have been abused or battered, or they are orphans, and all need psychological care. Their home is Clemens-Maria-Kinderheim. The days in Bad Griesbach are a wonderful experience for them. 2016_19
At the charitable school Königin-Juliana in Bonn one of the focus areas is psychomotricity - the relation between the psyche (mental processes) and motoric (physical activities). This is supported by leisure facilities. This year they sent 10 children off for a skiing event. Each pair of parents paid € 310. The remainder part of the costs, € 3.230, was donated by the Foundation. 2016_14
A focus area at the charitable organization LVR-Förderschule in Wuppertal is strengthening of the motor functions of their handicapped pupils, not just at the school but also through trips for skiing, horse back riding, or roll-training. A lot of expensive specialized equipment is needed for these activities as well as for specialized therapists. For horse back riding this year, the Foundation donated € 2.500,00.
Paracelsus-Schule Salzburg offers curative education for children and teenagers who cannot attend a regular school because of a physical, psychical or mental disability. Therapies range from horseback riding, therapist massage, speech training, to painting. The Foundation donated € 5.400,00 to support the painting therapy. 2016_044
Lebenshilfe München is a self-help organization for people between 3 and 18 years of age with mental disabilities, and for their parents and relatives. It offers support for families in their homes or at the premises of the organization. The playground equipment in the garden was getting too old. The Foundation sponsored the purchase of a tower platform, with a sliding board and a flex bridge, to the amount of € 4.000,00. 2016_043
In Kopan in Nepal, Mr. O. had just opened two amateur soccer fields for needy children and established a soccer school “Nepal Youth Programme” when the region was hit by an earthquake which made many families homeless. The soccer fields have to be rebuilt and the families need help for their everyday life. The Foundation donated € 5.000,00 to help the families affected by the earthquake. 2016_40
The charter of the charitable, registered association which runs Albschule in Karlsruhe is the education of mentally challenged children and teenagers. In addition to usual class hours, the school also supports projects which require transportation of pupils and equipment, e.g. of the cycling team, or the student band “Ranzenblitz”. Their 9-year-old bus had to be replaced. The school was able to contribute € 25.000,00 and the Foundation granted € 5.000,00 towards the costs of the bus. 2016_36
One or two times a year, the charitable organization Kindernetzwerk e.V. offers a time-out-weekend for fathers of children with chronic illnesses or handicaps. One of their experts focuses on the special needs of such fathers who have to balance the intensity of family life with their work career. For the past 15 years, SEHstern e.V. in Berlin has supported disabled people. In June 2016 the team takes 14 disabled adults on a 5-day trip to Herzberg at the river Elster, to escape from everyday life and to strengthen self-reliance.
